Reporting Structure Reports To: Staff Captain (Chief Officer) Supervises: Safety Team and assigned crew members during drills and emergency operations Position Overview The Safety Officer is responsible for overseeing all onboard safety operations and ensuring full compliance with international maritime regulations. This role focuses on emergency readiness, crew training, and the proper maintenance of safety equipment. The Safety Officer plays a key role in preventing accidents and ensuring the safety of both passengers and crew through strict enforcement of safety standards and procedures. Core Responsibilities Safety Standards & Regulatory Compliance Ensure the vessel meets all applicable safety requirements, including SOLAS, ISM Code, and STCW regulations. Carry out regular inspections of lifesaving appliances, firefighting systems, and emergency access points. Maintain detailed safety records, reports, and documentation for internal reviews and external audits. Emergency Readiness & Crew Training Plan, coordinate, and lead emergency response drills such as fire, abandon ship, and man-overboard exercises. Train crew members in emergency procedures, evacuation processes, and basic first aid techniques. Collaborate with senior officers to review and enhance emergency response plans and procedures. Fire Protection & Life-Saving Equipment Monitor the condition and readiness of fire prevention systems, including extinguishers, fire doors, and sprinkler systems. Ensure lifeboats, life rafts, and rescue craft are fully operational, properly stocked, and compliant with regulations. Coordinate inspection and maintenance schedules with engineering and technical departments. Risk Management & Incident Control Identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures to reduce safety risks. Investigate onboard incidents or accidents and prepare detailed reports for senior management. Work closely with the Chief Engineer to ensure all safety-related technical systems meet required standards. Safety Awareness for Crew & Passengers Deliver safety briefings and orientations for new crew members and passengers. Ensure safety signage, escape routes, and emergency exits are clearly visible and unobstructed. Enforce safety policies related to restricted zones, hazardous materials, and operational risks. General Duties Perform all responsibilities associated with the Safety Officer role in a professional and efficient manner. Ensure strict adherence to all safety, security, and operational protocols. Support a positive environment by providing assistance to guests and fellow crew members when needed. Participate in ongoing training, drills, and professional development programs. Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready work environment. Work collaboratively with all departments to support safe and efficient ship operations.
